For Uji City, Kyoto Animation Creates An Amazing Anime Commercial

Kyoto Animation and Uji City are inseparable. The region is home to the studio, with many employees residing in and around the city, in addition to being the setting for Sound! Euphonium, one of the studio's current flagship anime. Due to their shared relationship, the two collaborated on a tourism promotion that emphasised the area's romantic past and was centred around Murasaki Shikibu's The Tale of Genji.

October 2023 saw the campaign's initial announcement along with a stunning image. In a manner that only the Kyoto Animation crew can, a commercial for the town that reflected the same historical background as the poster was brought to life yesterday.

The 30-second version of the movie is accessible above; however, starting on March 9, a six-minute version can be accessed inside Uji City by using location sharing on your smartphone.

The commercial was directed by Takuya Yamamura (Tsurune) and finished in October of last year. Character concepts and animation direction were given by Kengo Narimatsu, the principal animator of Sound! Euphonium: Ensemble Contest Arc. The storyboard and unit direction of the short were done by Aiyumei Yoshida, who was a major animator on Sound! Euphonium: Ensemble Contest Arc. For the commercial, Azusa Tadokoro, who played Azusa Sasaki in Sound! Euphonium, provided the voice acting.
